What Is Causing So Many Quakes Today: Magnitude 4.7 Earthquake Strikes Off Maryland Coast

0115usgs 4.7 Magnitude Earthquake Reported Off Coast Of Ocean City

An earthquake was reported off the coast of Ocean City, Maryland, at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday according to the U.S. Geological Survey Earthquake Hazards Program.

However, there is no chance of a tsunami, according to USGS, and more than 50 people reported feeling a slight tremor.

The USGS website shows dozens of people reported feeling a small rumble from Ocean Pines all the way down the coast of Virginia Beach and points south.

The town of Ocean City posted a statement on Facebook:

“The Town of Ocean City is aware of an earthquake that took place in the Atlantic, approximately 130 miles off shore and nearly 6 miles deep. Although we have seen no effects here, our Emergency Services Department has been in contact with our State partners and will be monitoring if needed.”
