Police said that all flights in and out of JFK have been canceled. They are currently looking for the suspect.
Social media accounts showed massive panic at Terminal 8. Other passengers, including those in the air, were also concerned, reporting their flights diverted.
It has emerged that police have been alerted over two shots allegedly fired.
Another round of shots was reportedly fired later at 10:15 p.m. in Terminal 1 of the airport, according to PIX11.
At this point, NYPD cannot confirm whether any of the shots were actually fired. They did say that their assistance was requested by Port Authority.
Following a preliminary investigation, Port Authority officials said that there was nothing to indicate that shots were fired on Sunday night at JFK Airport.
The statement, issued by the officials, said that Terminal 8 was evacuated “out of an abundance of caution.”
“Preliminary investigation does not indicate shots were fired at JFK. There are no injuries. At this time, no gun shells or other evidence of shots fired has been found,” Scott Ladd with the Port Authority said. “Travelers should contact their carriers. There is substantial PAPD and NYPD presence at JFK and LGA. The investigation continues.”
Earlier, Port Authority said that shots were reportedly fired “near the departures area.”
