Active French Volcano Erupts For The Third Time In 2015

Located on the eastern side of the French island of Réunion, Piton de la Fournaise, or “Peak of the Furnace” is one of the most active volcanoes in the world.

Eruptions from this volcano can last for two days, as in December 2010, or for months, as in August 2006.

Access to the volcano during its eruptions was permitted until 1998, though this is now banned by Réunion National Park officials.

Piton de la Fournaise is now erupting for the third time this year. This video from YouTube user Fabrice H shows the volcano as it spews out molten hot lava.
