An asteroid will soon come closer to Earth than the moon, and a doomsday preacher is warning it could be an “apocalyptic fireball” prophesied in the Bible.
Asteroid 2011 ES4 is expected to skim past our planet on September 1 at 10:49am EDT (2:49pm UK time), NASA says.
The rocky visitor, measuring between 22m and 49m in diameter, will fly 0.00048 astronomical units away (44,618 miles) from Earth, at a speed of 18,253 miles per hour.
The moon is 238,855 miles from Earth so 2011 ES4 will skim by considerably closer than our lunar neighbour.
It’s considered a “Potentially Hazardous Asteroid” (PHA) based on certain NASA criteria.
“Potentially Hazardous Asteroids (PHAs) are currently defined based on parameters that measure the asteroid’s potential to make threatening close approaches to the Earth,” NASA has said.
“Specifically, all asteroids with a minimum orbit intersection distance (MOID) of 0.05 au or less and an absolute magnitude (H) of 22.0 or less are considered PHAs.”
While 2011 ES4 isn’t believed to pose any real danger to life on Earth, Pastor Paul Begley is convinced the asteroid could spell the end of the world.
“It’s been confirmed — incoming fireballs, apocalyptic, headed in our direction,” he proclaimed in a recent video on his YouTube account, where he has more than 330,000 subscribers.
“It is prophesied that apocalyptic fireballs will fall. We’re getting confirmation they are coming.”
Begley believes both Biblical passages and scientific evidence point to the planet being in danger of destruction by incoming space debris and asteroids in a “September to remember”.
“I’ve been talking about this for a decade because we knew, according to the Bible, we knew it was coming – even without scientific proof,” he said.
“Even Stephen Hawking says the Earth will be consumed in fire in 2600. I think it’s gonna be way way sooner than that because the Bible says it in second Peter, chapter three.”
