Sinkhole Opens In The Middle Of The Street In Jackson, Mississippi

A big sinkhole has opened up in downtown Jackson.

City crews were on the corner of State and Boyd streets Tuesday working on repairs.

The hole is so deep, people have been throwing trash into it. City officials said it didn’t start out that deep, but crews had to dig down to get to the pipe that is causing the issue.

At some point, a clay pipe collapsed underground, causing the sinkhole to open up, city officials said.

It could take a couple of days to repair the problem, but until then, the hole will remain marked off by orange cones.
