Another EXTREMELY Bright Fireball In The Skies, This Time In France: A Third Of The Stars

A very bright fireball streaked across the night sky over western France at 03:36 UTC (05:36 local time) on October 5, 2017 and was recorded by REFORME’s all-sky camera. It lasted between 3 and 7 seconds and was much brighter than the Moon.

REFORME is asking all witnesses to report their sightings and help determine the path of the object.

The American Meteor Society received just 4 reports by 09:40 UTC today. Eyewitnesses said the event lasted between 3.5 and 7.5 seconds. None of them reported sound associated with the event but two of them said they witnessed fragmentation.

The event comes just one day after a major fireball exploded over southwest China at 12:07 UTC (20:07 local time) on October 4, 2017. That event lasted more than 10 seconds before the object disintegrated in a very bright flash and was followed by a sonic boom.
