5.5 Magnitude Earthquake In Myanmar/India Region

An earthquake of magnitude 5.5 on the Richter Scale hit Myanmar-India border region at 7:11 am Tuesday morning, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

A 3.1 magnitude earthquake also struck Karbi Anglong district in Assam at 5:30 am Tuesday morning. Earthquake tremors were also felt in Guwahati in Assam, news agency ANI reported.

There are currently no reports on damage in the local areas.

An earthquake of 6.9 magnitude at a depth of 135 kilometers (84 miles), 396 kilometers (246 miles) north of Myanmar’s capital, Naypyidaw had struck Myanmar earlier in April 2016. Residents in Myanmar’s main city of Yangon panicked after the quake struck, but authorities there said there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

Tremors of that quake were felt in parts of Kolkata, Guwahati, Patna, Bhubaneswar and Delhi.
