Gunman Opens Fire In German Cinema

Police in Germany respond to a cinema shooting..

A gunman decked in a mask and draped with an ammunition belt stormed into a cinema complex in Vierhhelm, Germany, Thursday and opened fire, injuring up to 50 from CS gas he reportedly tossed at the scene, preliminary reports said.

The town is located near Frankfurt.

Sky News, citing a regional interior minister, reported the gunman was shot and killed by police. The Associated Press, meanwhile, said nobody was injured from bullets, which the gunman fired into the air, but dozens were taken for medical treatment for effects from the tear gas he released at the scene.

RT reported the shooter apparently tried to take several people hostage, but his efforts fell short when member of the elite police force stormed the cinema and shot and killed him.

The motive for his attack in unknown, and local media outlets report members of the elite police are currently investigating whether the shooting was a robbery attempt, or tied to politics or religious beliefs.

The West has been under a state of alert in recent months, due to threats from ISIS and radical Islamists to attack key spots in Europe and the United States. In Orlando just recently, gunman Omar Mateen shot and killed 49 and injured 53 at a “gay” hot spot in the city, all the while calling emergency 9-1-1 and telling operators his attack was a show of allegiance to an ISIS chief.

Local media, meanwhile, citing police, said initial findings indicate the man, whose name has not yet been released, seemed to have a mental disturbance, but no ties to terror.
