(TRUNEWS) Israel conducted war drills Monday to simulate a missile attack.
Army officials claimed the training was a “routine” check of air defense systems. It is not known definitively where the missiles were fired from, according to Jerusalem Post. Channel 10 in Israel has reported they were shot off from Palmahim airbase.
The Israeli Defense Force has several Patriot surface-to-air missiles that were manufactured in the U.S. Enhancements were reportedly made to make them more effective.
The Patriot works with weapons that can counter threats from enemies.
In Gaza in 2014, it shot down an unmanned Hamas aircraft over the port of Ashdod, as reported by Times of Israel.
Last month the U.S. and Israel tested six air defense systems in a single computer-simulated rocket and missile defense drill, which just concluded, called Juniper Cobra. It was the eighth joint exercise since 2001.
More than 1700 U.S. soldiers participated.
The commander of the U.S. air force in Europe and Africa, Timothy Ray claims the drill shows the strength of the relationship between Israel and the U.S., according to Haaretz.
