TORONTO – The driver of a Jaguar swallowed by a sinkhole in northwest Toronto early Wednesday told QMI Agency he had to crawl out the window to safety.
Mario Tavares was driving into a parking lot on Todd Bayliss Blvd. when the pavement beneath his car gave in.
“I pulled in and all of a sudden driving in, the car just went down,” he said. “So, I tried to get myself out. I opened the door, the door couldn’t open, so I rolled down the window and went out through the window, stepped on the hood and jumped out.”
Tavares wasn’t injured in the freak episode.
“The first reaction is ‘Get yourself out of here,’” he said.
